Denture adhesives help keep dentures in place. However, a comparison reveals that not all adhesives work the same way.
We’ll compare Cushion Grip and traditional denture glue. We highlight key differences to help you find the best option.
Traditional Denture Adhesive (Glue)
Traditional denture glue adhesives come in pastes, creams, or powders that create a temporary bond between your dentures and gums. This helps keep dentures in place while eating and speaking.
Cushion Grip Thermoplastic Denture Adhesive
Cushion Grip is a thermoplastic denture adhesive. It works like a soft reliner to refit and tighten dentures. When heated, it becomes pliable. It fills gaps for a snug, comfortable, custom fit.
Cushion Grip helps you temporarily refit and tighten your dentures between dental visits for added comfort and stability.
❗ Note: Cushion Grip is classified as a denture adhesive, but its thermoplastic formula works differently from traditional denture glues.
The Challenges of Using Traditional Denture Adhesives
Denture wearers know the struggles of traditional denture adhesives. These can provide stability. However, messy application and daily cleanup make wearing dentures feel like a chore.
Denture glue can be difficult to apply evenly. It may leave sticky residue or ooze around the edges. Some adhesives leave an unpleasant taste or gritty sensation.
Removing adhesive residue from your mouth and dentures adds another time-consuming step to your routine.

Once set, you can remove, clean, and soak your dentures. Cushion Grip stays in place. You can eat and drink with confidence.
Feel Secure Knowing Cushion Grip Is Zinc-Free
Zinc is an essential mineral found in many foods. However, it can also be present in some denture adhesives.
Using denture adhesive with zinc may contribute to excessive zinc intake. Frequent reapplication increases the chance of swallowing residue.
Choosing a zinc-free denture adhesive like Cushion Grip eliminates this source of added zinc from your denture routine.
A Better Choice for Denture Adhesive Without Zinc
Feel confident with Cushion Grip’s patented thermoplastic polymer formula that is both waterproof and zinc-free. As your gums naturally change over time, dentures can become loose and uncomfortable. Hi! I’m Ashley, a Cushion Grip Brand Ambassador. Yes, the “cushion” refers to the way Cushion Grip creates a new, more comfortable mold inside your denture. It helps your denture fit more comfortably and securely while also providing a little cushioning between the denture and your gums.
It’s more like a soft reline than a traditional denture adhesive, so it works by improving the fit rather than simply sticking the denture to your gums. I’ve personally used Cushion Grip and found it made a big difference in how comfortable they are.

Hi! I’m Ashley, a Cushion Grip Brand Ambassador. If you just applied it and it hasn’t been on your denture for a full 24 hours, we don’t recommend removing it yet.
If you absolutely need to remove it, you’ll need to soak the denture in ice water for a few hours first to help speed up the curing process. Once it has cured, you can follow the normal removal routine from our website: place the denture in hot water for about 5 minutes, then peel the Cushion Grip away to remove it.
The hot-water removal method is intended for Cushion Grip that has been allowed to cure for 24 hours or more.

Hi! I’m Ashley, a Cushion Grip Brand Ambassador, and the 2-hour mark is the best time to trim any excess. At that point, you can remove your denture, trim the excess, and still have enough working time to put it back in and mold the edges down with your fingertips.
For lower dentures, though, you may want to leave some of the excess in place. It can help form a better suction seal, and trimming too much could possibly reduce the suction.
