How to Apply and Remove Cushion Grip Denture Adhesive

FIRST-TIME USERS: HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Cushion Grip is not a glue adhesive; it adheres to dentures, not gums. This reduces or eliminates the need for glues, powders, pastes, and creams. It works like a soft reline, filling gaps to stabilize and tighten your fit.

  • While there is a small learning curve, when used correctly, it creates a suction seal that provides a tighter, more comfortable fit, lasting up to four days with just one application.
  • The quantity needed to secure your dentures properly is based on how loose your denture is. Start with a smaller application and add more if needed.
  • When first applied, you may feel a brief tingling sensation (similar to mouthwash), which is normal and should last no longer than 5 minutes. Cushion Grip contains small amounts of alcohol. Do not use if you have open sores or cuts in your mouth or gums—wait until your gums are healed.
  • IMPORTANT: Cushion Grip is not suitable for ill-fitting or broken dentures. It also does not adhere well to dentures with very smooth surfaces, silicone, or metal dentures.
  • WARNING: If you experience an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately. For more information about the product, please review the Cushion Grip Safety Data Sheet HERE

How to Apply Cushion Grip Denture Adhesive:

1. Warm

Cushion grip is a thermoplastic dental adhesive that requires heat to produce a softer pliable adhesive that provides a soft cushion for gums when applied to a denture.

Since it's a thermoplastic denture adhesive, Cushion Grip softens and becomes pliable when heated.

Warm the capped tube in a glass of hot tap water (NOT boiling) for 5 minutes with the cap facing downward. This will make Cushion Grip soft and easier to dispense (If you are having problems dispensing, soak for a few extra minutes).

2. Dispense

When it gets pliable in the tube, attach the (enclosed) slotted key to the end of the tube. Then turn the key to carefully squeeze a ball of Cushion Grip that is about the size of a nickel or 3/4 inch in diameter, per plate.

3. Apply to Lower Denture First (If You Have Both Upper and Lower Dentures)

Make sure your hands and the lower plate are both clean and completely dry before applying. Any wet spots will cause a lift. It's also important to perform this step while wearing your top denture in your mouth without Cushion Grip applied to it.

Step A for applying cushion grip on lower denture Start by molding the Cushion Grip ball into the shape of a rope by rubbing it between your palms.

Step B for applying cushion grip on lower denture. Place it gently along the gum groove from one end to the other, then spread the thinly layered adhesive over the necessary area and firmly press the layer to the plate.

Let set it for 5 minutes. After that, place your lower denture in and bite down firmly for 30 seconds to 1 minute to secure it.

[Tip: Always apply the denture adhesive in small amounts and near the gum groove area.]

Step C for applying cushion grip on lower denture. Apply to Upper Denture. Repeat the procedure by forming a Cushion Grip ball into the shape of a rope by rubbing it between your palms. It should then be gently pressed into the gum groove and evenly coated from end to end and in all necessary areas.
Let set it for 5 minutes. After that, insert upper dentures by pressing against the front gum. Next, firmly press the roof of the mouth up with your thumb. Complete the suction seal by biting down firmly for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

[Disclaimer: First, apply it in the trough/gum groove only. If your denture is still very loose, apply a thin layer over the palate as well.]
[Tip: Always apply the denture adhesive in small amounts and near the gum groove area.]

Step D for applying cushion grip on lower denture Continue wearing it for the following 2-6 hours to cure/set. Do not remove denture, eat, or drink for the first 2 hours. The longer you keep them in, the better. You can sip liquids but don't hold them in your mouth. Avoid hot liquids at first.

Do not soak or use other denture adhesive for the first 24 hours after application. After that, you can clean and soak like normal, and use other products for added security, such as glue adhesive or powder. It will not wash off or break down in water.

[Tip: The excess spillage offers a strong suction seal, but if there's too much, you may remove your denture after the first two hours, trim the excess, and re-insert it back in.]

How to Remove Cushion Grip Thermoplastic Denture Adhesive:

If after a few days, you feel the need to seal your dentures further, please remove Cushion Grip from your dentures and apply a fresh coat. Try to replace Cushion Grip on your dentures at least once a week.

Do not try to remove Cushion Grip until it is fully cured/set. Cushion Grip turns a lighter orange/peach color when it's cured. If you have any "orange" remnants, soak in iced water for a couple of hours until it turns "peach". That means it's fully cured.

1. Soak First

Soak denture plates in hot tap water (NOT boiling) for 10 minutes to soften the old Cushion Grip application.

2. Peel Away

To remove, gently peel away the warm Cushion Grip adhesive from dentures with fingers or tweezers.

You can use the methods our Brand Ambassadors recommend if you're having trouble getting Cushion Grip off:

[Method 1: Run warm water over your denture. Grab a little piece at the very end and pull up while holding running water between the Cushion Grip and your denture. It should all come out in one piece.]

[Method 2: Lift the edges all the way around and find an edge that you can grab onto with a good grip. Then you lift it VERY gently, much like a price tag sticker. If necessary, you can separate it by lifting it and reaching underneath with your finger. Sometimes use tweezers to lift in the trough where your fingers have a hard time fitting.]

Never imagined I would be leaving a review about a denture product.. I discovered cushion grip a few years ago. I tried it once (without following directions) and height it wasn’t working and stashed it away. A few months ago I saw some TikTok’s about it and decided to try again. I will say thereis definitely a learning curve. And following the direction STEP BY STEP, word for word helps. lol. I used the whole tube I had and bought another 2 pack. Still having difficulty with it. I’m currently on my 3rd tube and think I FINALLY got the hang of it. Kinda disappointed because now I’m going to have to buy more AGAIN but it’s definitely worth it once ya get it down. I have a extremely narrow bottom ridge and extremely deteriorating bottom ridge. I suffer from sore spots CONSTANTLY.. but as long as I have cushion grip in I am FINALLY able to eat comfortably without sore spots in the way. Thank you cushion grip for giving me my love for food back.

What was the answer to Kristy’s question? How often can I clean my dentures if I use Cushion Grip? Will it react with the inside of my dentures in any destructive way? What are the risks?

Mary

Team Cushion Grip

I put cushion grip on and i didn’t like it so I took it off, however some of it got on my top plate and I can’t get it off and it feels like the cushion grip ate away at the top plate and now you can feel a rough spot. Will this wear off or is it there for good…

Kristy
